The Vampire Diaries 4.21 "She's Come Undone" Review

Have to say this title kind of had me laughing, really it sums up Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Katherine.  They both hate each other and whilst Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) recruit her to help them with getting Elena back her humanity, she schemes to let Elena go and run rampage in an orphanage for all she cares.  Then Elena gets her humanity back, turns on her feelings and the first thing she decides is Katherine was to blame for everything that happened here so she's on a quest to kill her now.  Stefan asked her to focus on one thing to help her get over her guilt and he focused on her.  Thought for a second there she'd have focused on Stefan himself, especially the way Damon was looking at her, it was almost like she was going to throw her arms around Stefan any second.  Ah poor Damon gotta feel for him, he really did look like he had the rug pulled from under him.  Then to add insult to injury Katherine brought up that whole line of Damon never getting the girl, as if he hadn't had that rubbed in his face all through previous seasons.

Caroline (Candace Accola) thinks she may be able to get through to Elena by giving her real blood not any of that vervaine laced imitation, ha.  But she doesn't cos Elena plays spin the bottle and tells her she tried to kill her, was mean to her so why is she still here.  Finally Caroline gives up and decides there's more important things to do, like planning to graduate.  She's always prepared for school stuff, she's even ordered Matt (Zach Roerig)and Elena a cap and gown!  Which Matt can't believe cos Rebekah (Claire Holt) turns up and blabs that he's failing in his subjects.  Funny moment when Rebekah offers to let her compel him into cheating with his work and getting into college cos he doesn't want to be left behind.  She wouldn't leave him behind.  She offers to help him through until graduation to make up for what she did on the bridge.

Damon and Stefan carry on with their attempt to make Elena turn it on by using fear.  Seems tying her up in a chair, removing her daylight ring and letting the shine sun through didn't help either.  Come on you didn't see the ropes would burn.  It doesn't work as she gets loose and throws back the curtains and burns.  Hey she got that ploy from Damon in season 2 As I Lay Dying, when he wanted to end it all cos he was bitten by Tyler and was dying.  Realizing this won't work for her.  They bring in Katherine cos she'll be willing to do anything, use all forms of torture to bring Elena back.  That backfired bigtime since she's more interested in finding out what Elena said to Elijah which made him dump her and leave for New Orleans.   Then she leaves the door unlocked allowing Elena to escape.

Damon comes up with the idea of using Matt to guilt her into her humanity.  As Elena feeds off him several times over, Stefan stops her and Damon threatens to kill Matt if she doesn't come back.  She should recall him as everyone's favourite boy growing up with all his dreams and his life ahead of him.  But she doesn't care.  Damon snaps his neck in front of her when she calls his bluff.  "What's one less busboy."  Oh Damon, so deliciously cruel! Elena can't believe it and finally feels for Matt.  Especially when Damon shows he's wearing the resurrection ring.  She feels emotion now, she feels joy he's still alive.

Well that's Elena back then to cause moer problems for all as she goes after Katherine.   Funny since Bonnie (Kat Graham) is hiding from Silas (Scott Parks) until the full moon when she can perform the spell and open the veil to the two worlds, calls Katherine to get Silas's tombstone from her.  Katherine wants to know what's in it for her.  Silas can't get inside Bonnie's head anymore cos she's seen his face.  He however is on the search for Bonnie so becomes Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and appears to Caroline telling her why he left for New Orleans, admits he's Silas after she realizes he was listening to her conversation from earlier on and stabs her with a stake.  Then he appears as Matt and Caroline fears for her mother (Marguerite MacIntyre).

She drives home and thinks she's okay.  Bonnie arrives and tells her she's not her mother who has been killed by Silas.  Leaving Caroline to pull up all the stops as a medic and bring her back using her blood.  Bonnie leaves with Silas as he threatens to harm all her friends.  She then gets Katherine to agree to the tombstone in return for her freedom.  She'll get Katsia to reverse the spell, as Katherine realizes Bonnie doesn't need the full moon for the spell and can do it anytime.

A bit of a hit and miss ep in terms of Elena and Katherine to the point where they were so similar it was a bit pointless having them both in the show.  No, really, couldn't be bothered with what happened to Elena.  Particularly since the Salvatore's are both still pining over her and all she wants now is revenge.  Even when she found her humanity by using Matt of all people, nothing against him, but they don't usually do much with him in the show. That was a bit of  a letdown and seemed a bit of  a hasty way to bring her back.  Think this ep came a bit undone!
